Our Christmas and Our Year of 2016

Let me start out by saying that our Christmas this year was wonderful.  Very, very low keyed.  I had lunch with my oldest daughter and her husband.  They were "loners" this Christmas as her grown sons were out of town and his grown sons were out of town.  Son-in-law cooked us shrimp and grits for Christmas lunch and all I can say is "It was to die for".  He is such a good cook!

Christmas afternoon one of my grandsons and his wife were in town for a quick Christmas visit and came by to share a light supper with me and my oldest daughter and son-in-law.  Grandson is in the Marines and only had a couple of days off but he came home to be with his family.  I asked him if he would say the blessing at supper and I was thrilled to hear his blessing.  He knows the Lord and is a praying man.  His PaPa would have been so proud of him.

Wednesday I get to share lunch out with my youngest son and his family as their guest at Olive Garden.

What had started out as "I really don't have any plans for the Christmas week" as evolved into a week of happiness and joy.  For me, my family is the most important thing to me next to being committed to serve and honor my Lord and Savior.

2016 was not the best of years for our family.  Watching my son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and g-son- in- law go through the early birth of my great grandson and losing him eight weeks later was just a real heart breaker for our entire family.  But our family stood strong, prayerful and committed to one another.  We are survivors.

In 2017 I have some short term goals.  One is to finished all those unfinished quilt projects.  Another is to be kinder to others.  Traveling is also on my agenda and especially to the seashore.

May you have a year that is better than the last year and may all your hopes and dreams come true.

Riggs

It is with heartfelt sadness that I announce that our  Riggs passed on December 15.  He just was not strong enough to make it in our earthly world.  He is now restored to good health and held in the arms of those who have gone before him.  He was loved while we had him.

Quilt for Riggs

I have a new great grandson, Riggs.  I made him this quilt and my friend Marlin quilted it for me on her long arm.  Riggs was born with some serious health issues.  If you are prayer warrior or would like to be, please pray for baby Riggs and for his family.  Oh, I will be visiting with him in Texas in November.  Cannot wait to hold him in my arms and tell him he is loved.

What I Am Working On

My son-in-laws mother hand pieced this quilt top.  The top was found when they were cleaning out her house and they asked me if I would hand quilt it for them.  I love quilting this top and it is going to be a special memory in their family.

Sweet Land of Liberty

This wall hanging was a "Block of the Week" from our local quilt shop, City Square Quilts.
It was so much fun to make and will make a great wall hanging next year for Memorial Day and  July 4th.

April 17 2016

I just finished reading The Guilty by David Baldacci.  This was the first book by Baldacci that I have ever read but it will not be my last.  It was a great story line, well written with an awesome ending.

February 28, 2016 Star Wars Quilt

I am blessed with six great grandsons.  With the exception of one, I made each of them a quilt when they were born.  But one of the little guys was born at a time when I was taking care of my husband and I just did not have the time, energy or creative juices to make him a quilt.  He did get several receiving blankets that I made for him when he was born.

He is a big fan of Star Wars and when I saw Star Wars fabric I decided that I owed him a quilt.

Here is the quilt and I do hope he will enjoy cuddling with it.

January 12 2016 Tuesday

This was a "block of the month" series during 2015.  Finally finished piecing and getting a border on it.  I love the colors but not so much the design.  Now to purchase backing and get to quilting it.  Quilting always enhances the looks of a quilt.
